So it occurred to me that the name of this blog, Big Jewish Ideas, really should correspond to Big. Jewish. Ideas. Nothing pareve. And so far, admittedly, I've been rather pareve and full of small ideas, choosing instead to retweet or post other interesting things happening in the Jewish world. I decided to Google myself (turns out I had not properly keyworded my site and consequently I did not really exist); I discovered much to my chagrin, that I was beaten to the punch (sort of). The Federation of Los Angeles has a site called the Next Big Jewish Idea. It's fairly straightforward Federation stuff; the twist is that it's a high profile allocations process that relies on public input.
As an ex Federation planner and fundraiser, I'm biased (sort of) in saying that I prefer my new career, and the truly big ideas (and big challenges) of Jewish education.
Bottom line is, we're all searching for that elusive next thing to reinvigorate our communities, our schools, our synagogues, our JCC's, our organizations.
Call it a Jewish New Energy Policy if you will.
